New Subgrouping of Multiple Stellar Populations in NGC 2808 Based on Low-resolution Spectroscopy

چکیده
We performed low-resolution spectroscopy for the red giant branch stars in an intriguing globular cluster (GC) NGC 2808, which hosts subpopulations with extreme helium and light-element abundances. In order to trace N, C, Ca abundance differences among subpopulations, we measured CN, CH, ii H&K spectral indices, respectively. identified four (G1, G2, G3, G4) from CN CH strength, CN-weak/CH-strong G1, CN-intermediate/CH-strong CN-strong/CH-intermediate CN-strong/CH-weak G4. Compared [Na/O] high-resolution spectroscopy, show that index can more clearly separate G1 G2. Since traces N a GC, it implies G2 would larger difference [N/Fe] compared [Na/Fe], as predicted by chemical evolution models. Later generation G3 G4, however, are better separated spectroscopy. also found G4 shows stronger line strength of but suspect this be result unusually strong He enhancement and/or Mg depletion GC. This work illustrates combining low- spectroscopic studies improve separation GCs.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
متن کاملNear–Infrared Spectroscopy and Young Stellar Populations
Over the past decade, tremendous progress has been made in applying the techniques of MK classification to spectra obtained from 1–5 μm. This spectral region is rich in atomic and molecular features which are temperature and luminosity sensitive providing a powerful technique to study intrinsically red and/or heavily dust embedded stellar populations. We will summarize recent work with particul...
متن کاملDiscovery of a Variable Star Population in NGC 2808
We have applied the image subtraction method to images of the peculiar, bimodal-horizontal branch globular cluster NGC 2808, taken over a total of six nights over a range of five months. As a result, we have found, for the first time, a sizeable population of variable stars in the crowded inner regions of the cluster, thus raising the known RR Lyrae population in the cluster to a total of 18 st...
متن کاملThe Stellar Populations of NGC 3109: Another Dwarf Irregular Galaxy with a Population II Stellar Halo
We have obtained V and I-band photometry for about 17500 stars in the field of the dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 3109, located in the outskirts of the Local Group. The photometry allows us to study the stellar populations present inside and outside the disk of this galaxy. From the VI color-magnitude diagram we infer metallicities and ages for the stellar populations in the main body and in the ha...

We present high spatial resolution, medium spectral resolution near-infrared (NIR) Hand K-band long-slit spectroscopy for a sample of 29 nearby (z < 0.01) inactive spiral galaxies, to study the composition of their NIR stellar populations. These spectra contain a wealth of diagnostic stellar absorption lines, e.g., Mg I 1.575 μm, Si I 1.588 μm, CO (6–3) 1.619 μm, Mg I 1.711 μm, Na I 2.207 μm, C...
